Well, I measured my waist, neck and thighs, and put that information plus my weight into a body fat calculator and came up with 15.4% body fat. Not bad, in fact this was within acceptable range, but I want to drop to about 9% body fat which will put me in the atheletic range. I tried a new version of running today. After doing much research and repeatedly hearing the same advice for fat burning and obtaining wash board abs, I decided to try what is called Interval Training. From everything I hear running for 50 minutes on the treadmill will not give you as good of a workout with a steady pace as doing 25 minutes of interval training. So I tried the interval training today. Its still hard for me to believe I will burn more fat this way, but I'll give it a few weeks and see how it goes with 4 days a week interval training and 3 days for distance. Today I did the following workout:
3 minutes - 5mph - Warmup
Interval 1 - 8 mph - 1 minute
Interval 2 - 4 mph - 1.5 minutes
Interval 3 - 10 mph - 1 minute
Interval 4 - 4 mph - 1.5 minutes
I did intervals 1 - 4 a total of 5 times. The sites I checked out suggested 4 times but I barely did 2 miles with 4 interals so I added a 5th. I may add a sixth next time around.
Today I will also do weights for shoulders and legs as well as a new exercise I intend on doing daily which comes highly recommended for developing the hardest rock hard abs. They are called planks and I'll do 2 minutes regular and 1 minute on each side. We'll see how that works for the next two weeks. I'll be closely monitoring my body fat percentage (bi weekly) and my weight (daily). I'm also going back into lower carb mode starting today. (after the pizza I had for lunch of course)
